Management and Communication with residents

The Constantia Village Residents Association (CVRA) is managed by a dedicated volunteer committee comprising a chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, treasurer and several committee members, all of whom do their level best to give a personalised service.
The CVRA also manages two very successful community WhatsApp groups for members.  One deals with security and council matters and is a vital tool in the fight against crime while the other allows members to engage on a more informal basis.

Access to and communication with the committee

The CVRA has three large notice boards installed at entrances to the Village.  These are a valuable tool used to keep residents up to date on all important matters concerning the Village.  Paid up community members are represented by an elected CVRA committee.  Paid up members are most welcome to attend committee meetings provided that attendance is requested in advance.

Community Police Forum

CVRA is affiliated to the Community Police Forum (CPF), an interactive body comprising all the residents associations in the Honeydew precinct.  The primary function of the CPF is to make the whole precinct a safer, more secure and happier place in which to set up home.  You automatically become a member of the CPF on joining the CVRA.  You are invited to attend the monthly CPF meetings, however the CVRA is represented each month by a designated committee member who feeds information back to the committee.

SAPS in Honeydew

The Honeydew Police Station is required to service a vast area that has been sub divided into sectors.  Our Village falls into sector 4 with a high profile inspector in charge.  There is a dedicated 24 hour police car with a cell phone, for, hopefully, quicker turn-around time rather than residents having to go through the operations room at the Honeydew Police Station.

SAPS Support

Over the years the Police have supported all our crime prevention initiatives enthusiastically, with raids on squatter camps, shebeens, the removal of illegal aliens and the recovery of stolen goods.

Communication with the City Council

The CVRA works closely with the Ward 89 Councillor Amelia Bester and the Johannesburg City Council on such issues as health, road safety, security, street lights and others.

The Noel McDonald Park

The enclosed park facing Eland Street has three locked entrances.  One on Bokspoor Avenue, one in Bokspoor Return, and one in Duiker Street.  This is available to paid up members to use.  The palisade fence that encloses the park was funded in its entirety by residents contributions and monies raised from several fund raising events held over the years.  Currently the park is maintained for use by members of the residents association.

To receive a gate key for the park please email cvra.office@gmail.com at a cost of R25 to cover the cost of cutting the key.

Identification

On registration to the CVRA, each member is given a CVRA plaque to display on the external wall of their property as an evidence of membership.

Record Keeping

Where possible, the CVRA has a confidential, up-to-date, computerised database of residents which is not only used to keep track of finances and movements into and out of the Village, but also as a directory for quick access to vital contact numbers in the case of an emergency.

Activities and Events

Since its inception 23 years ago, the CVRA has involved itself in a host of social and other activities, with a view to making the Village a safer, friendlier and happier place to set up home.  Although there has been a shift away from community events, the committee is looking to re-establish community functions and fundraisers like the Market Day

We urge you to get to know the neighbours all around you.
