We were founded in March 1997.

The WELRIDGE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION area includes 733 houses and one Townhouse Complex consisting of 30 units.

As of the 31st January 2000, 529 households, (or just over 72%, excluding the Townhouse Complex) support us with a monthly subscription fee of R15.00. (The amount remains unchanged from the date of inception). If you want to know what we have done with your money, please refer to ACHIEVEMENTS AND GOALS.

Get to know your neighbours.

Become aware of - peculiar activities, people or vehicles, report shack building immediately to the OPERATIONS ROOM of the Honeydew Police Station, tel. 011 795-1960 / 1969. Also notify your respective streetleader and/or committee member.

Note: Once a roof is placed over a frame and a door fitted, the structure or the people who erected such structure can not be removed!!

G O A L S : (for the immediate future)

CONSOLIDATION OF YOUR COMMITTEE'S EFFORTS, IMMEDIATE/SHORT TERM GOALS:

i. To secure our area with a patrolling vehicle , manned by two Police Reservists, 24 hrs. /day, 7 days / week.

ii. To introduce traffic calming measures (calm down the Welridge Grand Prix circuit).

iii. To introduce DOMESTIC WATCH.

iv. To clean up the area around the SPAR SHOPPING area and the BIG TREE.

v. To continue to recruit residents to support our efforts.

A C H I E V E M E N T S :

Your R15.00 contribution per month allowed us to achieve the following, as well as spurning on your Committee to walk the extra mile (and spend countless hours of their own time

1. First Public Meeting on the 18th March, '97, followed by a Public Meeting on the 15th May, '97, thereafter

      • Appointment of the Committee,

      • Affiliation to the Honeydew Community Police Forum,

      • Appointment of Captain R. Prinsloo as liaison Officer to our Resident Association.

2. Issuing of Newsletters as from May, '97.

3. Monthly meetings of your Committee at the Honeydew Police Station to attend CPF and Broad Forum Meetings - some of the 52 affiliated Residents Associations and Councilors of our two Municipalities (Northern and Western Metropolitan Local Councils) meet to exchange views and information.

4. Introducing the printing of house numbers on roofs and kerbsides.

5. Appointment of SAFE HOUSES for our school children.

6. Re-painting of Street Names (WMLC only).

7. Obtaining sponsorship for the erection of WRA SIGNBOARDS at the six entrances to our area.

8. Obtaining sponsorship for our various activities ( such as FUN DAYS AT THE SCHOOL) - here it must be said we have received continuous support from our WELTEVREDENPARK SPAR.

9. Organising the PUBLIC MEETING on the 21st April, '98.

10. Organising our FUN DAY at the Weltevredenpark Primary School for the 13th March, '99.

11. Monthly contributions to our COMMUNITY POLICE FORUM by now we contribute in excess of R2.000 per month.

12. 72% of our residents (excluding our TOWNHOUSE COMPLEX) are by now supporting us with their R15.00 contribution ( -as per January, 2000).

13.Allocation of a dedicated Police Vehicle manned by our " own " Sergeant Frank Peche - Oct. '98.

14.Donation of REFLECTOR JACKETS for our Police Officers ( to make them Visible during night duty (Road Blocks).

15.Mapping of your Welridge R.A. area - done by Trevor Harpham.

16. Organising the clean up of our green belt.

17. Canvassing against the introduction of the MEGA-CITY.

18. Night drive organised by our Police Liaison Officer to highlight the negligence of our residents ( Cars parked outside the premises, outside gates left open, keys left in the car and/or entrance doors).

19. Erection of Palisade Fencing at the green belt bordering Jim Fouche and at two vacant stands in Cockspur Road - R28.000.

20. Manning of Road Blocks in June, '99 on the occasion of OPERATION "JERICHO".

21. Providing Christmas hampers for those Police Officers that are serving over the Christmas period - December, 1998 and 1999.

22. Establishing Street Directories with details of all supporting residents. NOT for publishing even though the Honeydew Police Station suggests that these details are made available: Here it must be said, for good reasons:

  • In the event of you having to phone the OPERATIONS ROOM your identity will be established immediately so that help can be dispatched immediately.

23. Re-opening of the OPERATIONS ROOM at the Honeydew Police Station- R20.000.

24. Registration of the WELRIDGE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION at the LOCAL INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR THE AREA represented by the WRA: This move was necessary to ensure that our green belt will not be used for allocating this area for low cost housing.
